H&M is expanding their organic cotton range - allowing environmentally conscious shoppers a wider choice of affordable, eco-friendly clothing than ever.
The new range, introduced in August, carries a special hang-tag for easy identification and includes everything from underwear to outer garments for men, women and children.H&M has been a member of Organic Exchange, an organisation that promotes organic cotton cultivation, since 2003. They introduced their first organic cotton range in 2004 and, in 2006, around 30 tonnes of organic cotton were used to create in H&M clothing worldwide. However, it is estimated that this year alone their new, expanded collection will require approximately 1,100 tonnes.
But H&M are careful to ensure their new range is as easy on the eye as they are on the environment. Margareta van den Bosch, head of design at H&M, described this season’s collection as: “Romantic styles combined with sporty influences”.
The cotton used by H&M is certified by the Control Union. It has been cultivated without the use of harmful chemicals.
