Founded as a Viking settlement, the city has been Ireland's primary city for most of the island's history since medieval times. Today, it is an economic, administrative and cultural centre and has one of the fastest growing populations of any European capital city.

Dublin covers an area of 44 sq. miles (114.99 square Km) and is estimated to have a population of 1.5 million people being the capital and the largest city of Ireland. It is noteworthy in terms of its vibrancy, its nightlife and its tourist attractions.

National Gallery of Ireland

m3.jpgJust 10 minutes walk from the city centre, on Merrion Square West, the National Gallery of Ireland holds the nations biggest collection of Irish and European art and master paintings.

The National Gallery has added a new extension to the old, original building, in the last few years. With this extension they have added a number of new wings, and there are a number of exhibitions & tours for each different wing and room in the gallery.

The Gallery is open year round, with the exception of Good Friday and the Christmas period. Admission is free.
